In preparation for the 9th Asian Winter Games, scheduled from February 7 to 14, 2025, significant enhancements have been made to Harbin’s transportation infrastructure to ensure efficient and comfortable travel for athletes, officials, and spectators.
The China Railway Harbin Group has implemented a comprehensive transportation plan, notably increasing train services between Harbin and Yabuli, the primary competition venue.
Enhanced Train Services
To accommodate the influx of participants and visitors, the frequency of high-speed trains from Harbin to Yabuli West Station has been substantially increased.
Previously operating six daily trips, the service has been expanded to 40 daily trips, with trains departing approximately every 30 minutes.
This enhancement reduces travel time between Harbin and Yabuli to about 50 minutes, facilitating seamless connectivity between the city center and the competition venues.
Additionally, Yabuli South Railway Station has introduced three special train services for the duration of the Games, including a direct regular train from Beijing to Yabuli South. This initiative provides convenient travel options for participants and spectators arriving from outside Heilongjiang province.
Infrastructure Upgrades
In anticipation of the Games, several key infrastructure projects have been completed:
Electrification of the Weihe-Yabuli South Railway: This project enhances the efficiency and capacity of train services to Yabuli, supporting the increased demand during the event.
Renovation of Yabuli West and Yabuli South Stations: Upgrades to station facilities ensure they meet international standards, providing a comfortable experience for all passengers.
Dedicated Services for Participants
To further assist athletes, event staff, and media personnel, dedicated service teams have been established at key stations, including Harbin Railway Station, Harbin West Station, and Yabuli West Station.
These teams offer specialized services such as ticketing assistance, baggage handling, and guidance within the stations, ensuring a smooth transit experience.
Comprehensive Transportation Network
Beyond rail services, Harbin has enhanced its overall transportation network to support the Games:
Aviation: Harbin Taiping International Airport, the official entry and exit point for the Games, has expanded its capacity with a new runway, increasing the number of aircraft stands from 91 to 181.
This upgrade allows for over 60 flights per hour, accommodating international routes to countries including Japan and South Korea.
Road Transport: Dedicated service channels have been established at major transportation hubs, and shuttle bus routes have been increased to facilitate movement between the airport, train stations, and competition venues.
The Yabuli West Tourism Passenger Station has been newly constructed, and the Yaxue Highway has been upgraded to a two-way, four-lane first-class highway, ensuring smooth road connectivity.
These comprehensive transportation enhancements reflect Harbin’s commitment to hosting a successful and memorable 9th Asian Winter Games, providing efficient and comfortable travel options for all participants and visitors.
